Ending the employment relationship

 

Termination is the modern day equivalent to being banished from your tribe.  It is a public confirmation of everyone's worst fears - failure and not being wanted.  But it is also every Manager's nightmare - being responsible for another person's demise and exclusion.

Siân can help you work out how you should deal with an employee who is not performing at the level you expect or is just not needed any longer.  If this means termination, she can advise you on how to do this fairly and respectfully so that the employee can retain their dignity.

So often you can't actually bring yourself to tell the truth because you know it will hurt and you don't want to cause anyone pain.  And so instead you take the "easy" option and muffle the impact of the message.  This can lead to the employee leaving the room feeling that they are not so bad after all and you leave feeling frustrated because you know you didn't make your feelings clear.

I can help coach you on what is likely to happen when you have conversations like this, what your employee is likely to say, how you are likely to react so that you can plan the conversation better so that you say what you mean in a positive, respectful way.
